William E. (Bud) Smith
for Highway Superintendent

Bud has been a member of the Highway Department
for app. 24 years. Bud, as Highway Superintendent,
oversees the day to day operations of the Highway
Department. He also provides future planning for
the department.
He has attended numerous seminars sponsored
Cornell Local Roads Program and others. He has been
recognized as a “Roadmaster, Level 2” by the
CLRP. These seminars stress the professional
and economical operation of a highway department.
Bud, with his wife, Darcy, and children Cameron and
Morgan, has resided in the Town of Mendon for the
past 27 years. Bud maintains memberships with several
organizations, both professional and recreational. He is
currently President of the Monroe County Highway
Superintendents Association.

Accomplishments (2008-2009):
- Replacement of a 4,000 square foot equipment storage building, which had been destroyed by fire.
- Continued upgrading of equipment: Dump trucks and heavy equipment.
- Conducted several projects for the County, increasing income to the Town.
- Provided winter maintenance of Town, County, and State roads
- Elected President of the Monroe County Highway Superintendents’ Association.
Planned for 2010-2011:
- Continue equipment replacement program, upgrading old equipment and turn over equipment in an timely-economical manner.
- Resurfacing of roads, within budget restrictions.
- Continue addressing drainage problems within the Town.
- Continue work upgrading the old cemeteries in Mendon.
Future Plans:
- Plan for future purchase and installation of Salt Storage Facility. New facility will address environmental concerns and economic issues.
- Plan for second phase of the equipment storage building.
- Work with Town Board in developing plan for future large purchases and setting aside reserve funds for those purchases.
